Neurons on integrated circuits.
During the summer of 2009, Akshay Deverakonda, while a junior in high school, conducted some pretty cool experiments with snail neuron cells. He stimulated them for days at a time, and realized he was looking at an LTP-like phenomenon. We are planning on continuing to investigate neuronal networks in the dish, from the perspectives of their behavior, control of their spiking, and understanding of their development over time (over weeks or months, while in culture).
